Dragon Tiger Live Game Review

Dragon Tiger Live Game Review

Dragon Tiger may not be the world’s most extensive casino game, and it lacks much of the strategy associated with poker and blackjack games. However, there’s more to Dragon Tiger than luck, as I found out when I had a crack at this Asian favourite for Gamesbelt.

Ideal for newbies, Dragon Tiger has plenty in common with Casino War and other simple card games. There are typically only a few limited ways to bet on the game, plus additional side bets, and I will walk you through all of those right here in this uncomplicated, straightforward gambling guide. Let’s get started.

Software Provider Pragmatic Play
Game Type Card
RTP 96.27%
Betting Range 0.20 – 250.00
Maximum Win Cap 50x
Live Stream Location Canada, Estonia, Malta, Romania, UK

A live casino game of Dragon Tiger is shown, featuring a dealer in a red dress seated at a black gaming table with "Dragon" and "Tiger" betting areas clearly marked. The screen displays betting options, a live card dealing area, and game statistics. Behind the dealer, red and gold Asian-themed decor is visible, including dragon and tiger motifs.

Setting Up Bets

The first thing that you need to know about Pragmatic Play’s Dragon Tiger is that it doesn’t play ball when it comes to straightforward bets. I noticed that the wagering range present in the game tends to differ depending on where you play. Most variants have the minimum stake lingering at around 0.20, although the upper limit can stretch from 250.00 up to 5,000.00, depending on your live casino of choice.

Before the game commences, you’ll be able to choose to splash your cash on either the Dragon or Tiger hand or make use of side bets, and I’ll touch on those next.

Dragon Tiger Gameplay

At its heart, Dragon Tiger is a game where eight decks (of 52 cards) are shuffled and put on the table. Two cards are then chosen. One will be the Dragon, and the other, the Tiger. Your job is to bet on whether the Dragon or Tiger pile (card) will have the highest value. Aces are low (1s), while Jacks, Queens and Kings count as 11s, 12s and 13s.

To help you wager, Pragmatic Play’s Dragon Tiger game comes with “Roadmaps”, which are essentially betting histories. They can show you how previous games have panned out. However, since Dragon Tiger is predominantly a game of chance, I didn’t find them much use.

After bets have been placed, the cards will be drawn. The first card in the game is burned (discarded), and whichever side has the highest-ranking card will win. In the event of a tie, half the bet is returned unless you specifically bet on it. That’s about all there is to this simple game unless you play with side bets.

Playing Dragon Tiger with Side Bets

There are a few side-bets for you to consider in Dragon Tiger, and I played with them extensively to help you get a good idea of what you’re dealing with. I don’t recommend them. Here’s why:

  • Dragon/Tiger Big: A wager that either the Dragon or Tiger card will be worth 8 or higher.
  • Dragon/Tiger Small: A wager that either the Dragon or Tiger card will be worth 6 or higher.
  • Dragon/Tiger Odd: A wager that either the Dragon or Tiger card will be an Ace, 3, 5, 9, Jack or King.
  • Dragon/Tiger Even: A wager that either the Dragon or Tiger card will be a 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 or Queen.
  • Dragon/Tiger Red/Black: A wager that either the Dragon or Tiger card will be a red or black card.
  • Suited Tie: A wager that both hands will feature a specific suit.

Seven is a bad number for side bets in Dragon Tiger. If you place a big or small, or odd or even bet and seven pops up, you’ll instantly lose. For suited side bets, you will need to specify which suit you think will be drawn.

It’s also worth noting that while the RTP rate in Pragmatic Play Live’s Dragon Tiger is 96.27% for the basic Dragon/Tiger bet, the tie has an RTP of 89.64%. Suited ties are even worse, at 86.02%. All other side bets featured in this game have RTP rates of 92.31%. That’s not favourable enough to bet on, in my opinion, especially given the payout is worth the same as the basic bet.

Dragon Tiger Live Prizes and Winnings

As you can see, there aren’t too many obstacles to playing Dragon Tiger live at Pragmatic Play casinos. I found it an easy ride, although there is a small learning curve for beginners. Here are the payouts you need to be aware of when playing Pragmatic Play Live’s version of this game:

Hand Payout
Dragon/Tiger Hand 1:1
Tied Hand 11:1
Dragon/Tiger Big/Small Side Bet 1:1
Dragon/Tiger Odd/Even Side Bet 1:1
Dragon/Tiger Red/Black Side Bet 1:1
Suited Tie Hand Side Bet 50:1

Gamesbelt’s Verdict

Dragon Tiger comes in handy for two reasons. Having given a test run, I believe first-timers in the world of live casino games will appreciate its offerings, as it is uncomplicated. Secondly, more seasoned live casino players may also get a kick out of it, especially if they are looking to try other live games outside of the mainstream baccarat, blackjack and roulette options.

Dragon Tiger won’t keep you entertained for hours, but it’s a great game for a quick session. In my expert opinion, the only way you’re going to make any money, though, is to head for the Tied or Suited Tie bets, and that’s considerably risky.
